FRANCE
There are many places around the world I would like to visit but the country I really want to go to, is France. This is some information about the country and the sites I would like to visit.

LOCATION:
France is a very big country with a population of about 61 685 000. The country covers 544 000 km² and extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Spain and Andorra. The biggest cities are: Paris, the capital of France, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Nice, Strasbourg, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Lille and Grenoble.

HISTORY:
France is one of the most developed countries and enjoys a high standard of living. The country has a high public education level and has also one of the world's highest life expectancy. The official language is French. France has been a member state of the European Union since 1957.

The flag of France has three colours:
blue which symbolises the liberty
white which symbolises the equality
red which symbolises the brotherhood

The capital:
Paris is the capital of France and one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and it influences politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and arts. Paris is also a very popular holiday destination for millions of tourists who visit it every year.

Climate:
The climate in France is different in each area. There are warm, dry summers and mild winters.

Cuisine:
France produces the best wine in the world which makes it very famous. France is also well-known for the various types of cheese it makes. People prefer French cheese for its special taste. We can say that French crepes and croissants are delicious, too.

Goods:
French goods have very high quality. France started producing perfumes many years ago and that's why its perfumes are very popular. Also France is very popular for its cars (Citroen, Peugeot etc).

A country that I would like to visit

I like trips and I have been abroad. I have been to some Greek islands, and they were so beautiful. I have been to France specifically in Disneyland and it was the best trip in my life.

I would like to visit many countries. My dream is to go round the world. I would like to start from Argentina, because I've heard from my friends that Argentina is very beautiful and an interesting country. I've also seen movies and series about that country and from the first moment I have adored this country.

I know one person from Argentina and she is very good and their traditional food is delicious. In summer they do a lot of festivals and parties. Dancing and music are their life.

I think it is possible to visit this country when I grow up. I will visit it with my friends, I hope so !!!

My favourite song is "The best of both worlds". Its singer is Hannah Montana!!! In my opinion she is the best idol for the thousands of girls (and boys too) who listen to her songs. This song talks about Hannah Montana's life as Hannah Montana and as Miley Cyrus. She is one person who lives in two worlds. Hannah Montana plays in a tv programme, too. She has also played in a movie. I like this song because Hannah Montana is full of energy when she sings it! Marcos Paghdatis ( born June 17, 1985, Limassol ) is a Cypriot professional. He was the runner-up at the 2006 Australian Open and a semifinalist at the 2006 Wimbledon Championships. As of 5 May 2008, he is ranked No. 15 on the APT rankings. Marcos Baghdatis is the son of a Christian Lebanese father, Christos, who migrated to Cyprus and a Greek Cypriot mother.
During his tennis career he became the ITF World Junior Tennis Champion in 2003. Marcos Baghdatis entered the Australia Open and he still continues his successful career.

Kyriakos Ioannou: Kyriakos Ioannou is a Cypriot high jumper from Limassol in Cyprus. He is 25 years old (born 26 July 1984). His personal best jump and Cypriot national record is 2.35 metres, achieved at the 2007 World Championships held in Osaka where he won the bronze medal. He became the first World Championships medallist from Cyprus. In the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he won the silver medal. Cyprus is proud of him! His records are very important and he makes our island famous in the world. Sometimes big things come from big countries, but not always. Even though Cyprus is a small island it can do many things and this is obvious!!! Kyriakos Ioannou is an athlete who always work hard and he worthed the prizes and the medals he took.

Are you active enough?
Some hobbies are good for our health. Some of these hobbies are sports like basketball, volleyball and football. Football is the most famous sport especially among boys. Girls like watching football too, but they do this because they like the footballers and they don't really mind about the score. At school, we do sports, at our lesson of P.E. (Physical Education). We, also, learn field, race-courses and others. But students aren't keen on these sports only. In their free time they like cycling and going to the gym. Girls also like going to dance lessons and boys usually go to football practises after school. These help them keep fit and enjoy their free time!! Teenagers love sports. At weekends they go for ice-skating something that they are really mad about. Some mothers tell that if their children want to keep fit they can help with the housework! There are many things to do if you want to improve your health. The important is to make exercise a habit you can't live without!

Traditional Recipe for Christmas:
Ingredients: 450g flour
· 1 teaspoon vanilla
· 1 tablespoon ouzo
· 450g unsalted butter
· 2 egg yolks
· 175g sugar
· 2 teaspoons cinnamon
· 1 teaspoon baking powder
· 1/2 cup ground almonds or walnuts
· icing sugar
Directions:
1. Sift flour with baking powder twice.
2. Cream butter and sugar add ouzo, vanilla egg yolks, nuts, and cinnamon.
3. Blend in flour to make soft but firm dough.
4. Break off small pieces, pat into biscuit shape, place on floured baking tray. Insert a clove in
each biscuit and bake at 180 degrees calcium for 20 mins.
5. While still hot, sprinkle biscuits with icing sugar.
6. Each shortbread should be stuck with one clove to represent the three wise men who brought
spices to the Christ child.

Hello! My name is Mikaella Patsali. I am thirteen years old and I was born on 18th January in 1996. I am from Cyprus and I live in a small village, called Yeri, near the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. My favourite lessons are History, Computers and Maths. I have one brother younger than me. In my free time I love going to the cinema, playing games online and cooking. Christmas in Cyprus

The Christmas period is a religious holiday, the Cypriot people honour Christ. There are services at all Churches on Christmas Eve and early Christmas Morning. Before Christmas arrives, the housewives start the preparations for the twelve holy days. The Holy Twelve days of Christmas, six days in the “old” year and six days in the “new” year, include the three feast days-Christmas day, New Year’s Day and Epiphany.

Turkeys are now part of Christmas in Cyprus and Christmas Day will see the traditional turkey Christmas dinner! The children get their presents on New Year’s Day as Santa Claus is “Agios Vasilis” whom is celebrated on this day.
After bedtime on New Year’s Eve, the mothers would put out the presents under the tree with “Santa’s” cake with a coin inside the cake, and a glass of wine next to it for “Santa” to refresh himself.

The children wake really early on New Year’s Day and rush to cut the cake, for someone to find the coin. The person who finds the coin will be lucky all year. After the cake cutting, it’s time for presents!! For the New Year’s Day feast, much traditional baking takes place, including the cake with the lucky coin. After attending the service in church, the different families will embrace and wish each other everything that is good.

On the 6th January, the children would again rise early and go to their grandparents’ homes. After reciting a small poem, the children receive gifts of money. Christ was baptized in the River Jordon on Epiphany Day (The Feast of Light) which is the 6th January. In all seaside towns or villages, it is traditional for the Priest to lead a procession down to the sea where the ceremonial Baptism is enacted. Suring the ceremony, the leading Priest will cast the Holy Cross into the sea and young men dive into the sea to try to retrieve the cross and returning it to the Priest.

University of Cyprus: In general, the education system in Cyprus is of a high standard and accessible to all residents. The University of Cyprus is located in Nicosia, and offers higher education up to Master Degree levels. There are a number of faculties including Humanities, Pure & Applied Sciences, Social Sciences & Education, Economics & Management, Engineering and History. In order to apply for a place at university, students must have obtained a high-school leaving certificate and additionally they must pass year-end examinations in June-July.
Economy: Nicosia constitutes the financial centre of the Island. A business-oriented person could find everything that would fit to his/her needs. The Cyprus economy is an open economy based on the free enterprise system. Its banking system modeled on the British system has always been in private hands. Forty-eight years after independence, Cyprus is regarded by the international community as one of the success stories in the fields of economic and social progress. Furthermore, as it is known, Cyprus has become a full member of the European Union in 2004. This transmission to the Union has caused no problems to the country because it had already been a fairly-enough developed country.

Nicosia is a town that has something to offer to almost everyone. The town centre has a large modern shopping centre with many shops in which one can find almost everything. It has also many interesting monuments, first-class hotels, a very good service and financial system, a wide range of places of entertainment and an abundance of restaurants and taverns.
