University of Cyprus: In general, the education system in Cyprus is of a high standard and accessible to all residents. The University of Cyprus is located in Nicosia, and offers higher education up to Master Degree levels. There are a number of faculties including Humanities, Pure & Applied Sciences, Social Sciences & Education, Economics & Management, Engineering and History. In order to apply for a place at university, students must have obtained a high-school leaving certificate and additionally they must pass year-end examinations in June-July.
Economy: Nicosia constitutes the financial centre of the Island. A business-oriented person could find everything that would fit to his/her needs. The Cyprus economy is an open economy based on the free enterprise system. Its banking system modeled on the British system has always been in private hands. Forty-eight years after independence, Cyprus is regarded by the international community as one of the success stories in the fields of economic and social progress. Furthermore, as it is known, Cyprus has become a full member of the European Union in 2004. This transmission to the Union has caused no problems to the country because it had already been a fairly-enough developed country.
Nicosia is a town that has something to offer to almost everyone. The town centre has a large modern shopping centre with many shops in which one can find almost everything. It has also many interesting monuments, first-class hotels, a very good service and financial system, a wide range of places of entertainment and an abundance of restaurants and taverns.
